Tips For Bargain Hunters

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Bargain hunting online can be something that you can do a lot easier these days since there are so many options. There is a reason why online shopping is gathering such popularity – they offer some of the most amazing deals and discounts on all kinds of products and you have a lot of variety available to make your choice from.

A local shop runs on a location that costs a lot of rent and then there are other utility bills to think of like electricity. This is why the prices that they offer on their products also include the cost of these extra payments. Online stores on the other hand require neither rent and there are no utility bills to think of so basically they can provides you the same goods at a price that is much lower.

If you are trying to get a bargain deal on a favorite product online, you can also make a search to see if you can find any discount or offer coupons as well. There are a number of sites that now have these coupons displayed for the consumers and from restaurants to clothing items and baby formula – there is a coupon for everything.

Another idea to save more money is to check out the new private sale websites for designer products. These websites have some amazing prices for the original designer items. But if you really wish to seal a deal you will have to move quick because the deals have a tendency of ending quite early if the stocks finish. You can also look online for some invitations to invitation only shopping websites which also offer amazing discounts.

Controversy over Manhunt 2

Controversy over Manhunt 2 spreads as Britain and Ireland have already censored the computer video game; and sales in the US look to be put on hold or restricted all together.

In New Your video game publisher Take-Two announced on Tuesday June 19th that it was temporarily suspending the release of the ultra violent computer video game “Manhunt 2″ because of the ongoing rating issues faced in the United States and the the ban in Britain and Ireland.

Take-Two said int a statement that it need time to “reviews its options” but would “continue to stand behind this extraordinary game.”

“We believe in freedom of creative expression, as well as responsible marketing, both of which are essential to our business of making great entertainment,” Take-Tow explained.

The computer video game “Manhunt 2″ had been scheduled for release on July 10th in the Untied States for both the Nintendo Wii and Playstation 2.

However critics are concerned with games’ content, “which depicts escape of an amnesiac scientist and a psychotic killer from an asylum and their subsequent killing spree. In the Wii version, the consoles motion-sensitive remote is waved around to control a virtual murder weapon.”

There is still skepticism on whether violent video games lead to violent behavior, but many big retailers, such as Wal-Mart, which accounts for 25 percent of U.S. computer video game sales, refuse to carry “Adults Only” titles.

This suspension was a setback for creator of Roskstar games, which came under fire for the popular “Grand Theft Auto” series of urban crime games, with Take-Tow earlier this year “underwent a shareholder coup that ousted its chief executive and nearly all of its board.”

Take-Two has done very well for itself with last year revenues just over $1 billion, and with Manhunt 2 it is expected to generate around $40 million according to analysts, which suspension or setback can hurt Take-Two sales.

For Take-Two new management its goals are to rein in the creative talent and tell the video game industry that they are in the business of making money and to make games that sell not game that are artistically beautiful but not available at Wal-Mart. Agreed, if Take-Two or Rockstar or whatever company creates game that may look great but are to violent or have too much sexual content to be put on the selfs at Wal-Mart that need to reconsider how they create their games.

Writing with a Sense of Adventure

We’ve all been told that we need to use all five senses to bring our fiction to life. Sight, sound, smell, taste and touch all need to be invoked. But there’s one other sense that also needs to be used: the sense of adventure.

Just bringing your work to life is not enough. Accountants and insurance salesmen are alive, but how many people want to cozy up to them and talk shop for hours at a time? Writing with a sense of adventure will give your work an added spark of excitement that will make people rush to lose themselves in your pages for the hours it takes to finish the book.

So, how does one write with a sense of adventure?

Webster’s defines “adventure” as:

1 a : an undertaking usually involving danger and unknown risks

b : the encountering of risks (the spirit of adventure)

2 : an exciting or remarkable experience (an adventure in exotic dining)

3 : an enterprise involving financial risk

Check out definition #3. How many of us write “safe” books because we think they’ll be easier to sell? But even if you know in advance every element that you’ll use in a book — say, if you’re writing The Amnesiac Cowboy’s Secret Baby — you can write about those elements with a sense of adventure.

The way to do that is by utilizing definition #2. Turn everything, no matter how prosaic, into an exciting and remarkable experience by using telling details. Turn your descriptions into wild safaris to bring back the perfect image of something, seen “in the wild” in a way the reader doesn’t expect. For example, in my book, DARK SALVATION, Rebecca, the reporter, sneaks into one of the abandoned labs during her tour of the secret research facility. She has only a moment to look around before the lights go out, but in that time she sees:

A rough wooden table with brightly painted drawers filled the center of the tiny room. Narrow counters and desk spaces ran around the walls, with shrouded laboratory equipment stored neatly for their next use.

What caught her eye? The fact that in this industrial research complex, where everything is white and gray, the drawers of the table are painted in bright colors. Are they color-coded? Are the scientists allowed more freedom than expected? Or is it, as she suspects, a prop, purchased from someplace that no longer needed it, and never used? The same with the lab equipment. It’s covered up, so how can she be sure of what it really is?

A short time later, she enters one of the labs that is in use:

A young man in a wrinkled white lab coat sat at the counter, hunched over a microscope that was far more complex than the simple magnifiers she remembered from high school biology. A scattering of Twinkie wrappers surrounded him, perfuming the room with the odor of preserved sugar. It was sickeningly sweet, but a welcome change from the antiseptic air of the hallways. He must have heard the buzzing of the scanner, because he lifted one hand and made vague shushing motions at the door.

What catches her attention now? First, she’s checking the new facts against the old — the cover is off and she can see what the machinery really is. But what’s it really being used for? And, she notices the smell, as well as that it’s covering up another smell/taste. What else is being covered up?

See how the descriptions are short, but full of telling details that give a sense of adventure? And, just to get back to the other five senses, see how they’re worked in? (At least, sight, sound, smell and taste are. Touch is sort of implied in the “rough” table)

Last, let’s look at definition #1. How can writing involve danger and unknown risks? One way is to use techniques you’ve never used before. For example, write a book using a single point of view. The other way, which is actually more dangerous and risky, is to plumb deeper within yourself for the emotion that makes it to the page. Don’t just write a scene — live it. Feel not only what happens and how that affects the characters, but what it means. Then, (#1b) encounter those risks, don’t avoid them. When you get to the hard parts, when you’re tempted to take the easy out and find the simple resolution, push through and go for the solution that feels like it’s tearing your soul out. Your triumph will show on the page, and the readers will feel it.

Current Day Abuse – When Dissociative Trauma Survivors Are Trapped, Owned, and Exploited As Adults

Dissociative Identity Disorder is created from severe, chronic child abuse, but does that abuse automatically stop in childhood?

Unfortunately, no, it does not.

All too many survivors continue to be trapped in abusive environments long after their childhood has ended.  Sometimes this abuse continues with the same family-related perpetrators that abused the survivor all throughout the childhood years.  For example, far too many adult children of creepy-fathers are still being sexually abused into adulthood.

Creepy-fathers don’t necessarily stop being sex offenders just because their children get older.  These lifelong predators already know how to manipulate your dissociative system, and they will continue to “call out” and dominate the child parts that they controlled for all the years previous.  The child parts don’t necessarily realize that they are in an adult body, or that years of time have passed, so it still feels like more of the same to them.

Typically, in situations such as these, the dissociative walls that separate those abused child parts and the adult host can still be locked solidly in place, allowing no seepage of information to pass through.  The adult DID survivor may not have any conscious awareness that they are still being abused in this way.

Scary.

And sad.

But true, far too often.

Sometimes, the ongoing abuse is more organized than in-home family abuse.  The sex slave industries can use, own, control, sell, and exploit dissociative survivors for many years.

Slavery didn’t end with the Civil War – it just became more hidden.

One of the current ways that slavery still exists — even in 2009 — is through the entrapment of the dissociative population.   Various prostitution / pornography organizations can “own” and exploit survivors by using physical violence, emotional blackmail, drugs, mind control techniques, and dissociation as means to maintain their power and control.  Extricating these dissociative prisoners from these organized predators is a complicated and complex process, but possible nonetheless.

Adult trauma survivors with Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) have had years of experience managing severe trauma while simultaneously blocking themselves off from the reality of that trauma.   Dissociative walls can provide an element of amnesia that both protects the person from the overwhelming crushing awareness of ongoing abuse, but also traps the survivor in an ongoing continuation of that abuse.

If dissociative survivors have current-day chunks of missing time blocked from their awareness, they cannot know what happened to them, but they also cannot remove themselves or protect themselves from the ongoing trauma and abuse.  Without effective therapy and treatment, they also cannot remember or control the fact that they could be handing over their children to be used in the same abusive ways by the very same perpetrator groups.

Unfortunately, we all know that the kiddie porn industry is alive and well.

Dissociative survivors that grew up being used and sold within the kiddie porn industry are at a higher risk of continuing to be owned by, and forced to work for that industry even as adults.

When DID survivors are involved in current day abuse, it is imperative to break down the amnesiac walls created through dissociative processes.  The survivors have to have the courage to look at what they are involved with, and then have even more courage to problem-solve their way out.

Dissociative survivors trapped in other kinds of family violence and domestic violence are vulnerable in these same ways.

Trauma therapists must be aware of these possibilities so they can actively work with the dissociative population in order to assist them to gain freedom from ongoing abuse.  Therapy with a strong emphasis on increasing internal communication and lowering amnesiac barriers is essential.

Therapists need to use basic good trauma therapy while doing this work. Listen closely to the inside parts, help sooth the pain, create both internal and external safety, reconnect the isolated parts with the rest of the system, address the concerns raised by those internal parts in all the normal ways, etc.  Many of the very same processes that work to help heal “regular abuse” continue to be effective in addressing more extreme abuses.

To all dissociative survivors —

You don’t have to stay stuck in the abuse cycles.  If you are able to read this post, you are able to do the work it takes to remove yourself from any ongoing abuse that you are tangled in.    Of course, your perpetrators won’t tell you that you can get out, but you can get out and away from them anyway.  You are older, wiser, and stronger than you were when you were just a child.  You can find ways that will work for you, you can find safe people to help you, and you can be safe.  Talk lots and lots to your inside people – it’s only as you work together as a team that you can beat the external controls.  It takes a lot of hard work, but if you all really want to be free from abuse and safe from harm, you can be.  It can happen!

Adult Oral Sedation Dentistry

Adult Oral Sedation in the Dental Office

Adult Oral Sedation as a part of your dental practice can be a wonderful adjunct to the services you can provide your patients. This article is not meant to provide any training in oral sedation, you are encouraged to take a board approved course.

The ability to treat patients that may otherwise go without proper care can be very rewarding to you, your team and your patients. Currently, in California, a permit acquired through the Dental Board is required. Section 1004 defines adult conscious as any patient over 13 years of age, although I personally only treat patients over the age of 18. This permit is only needed if the dentist is going to administer medication dosages that exceed the FDA daily recommended dose. A dentist can apply for a permit by either submitting 10 board approved sedations completed prior to Dec. 31, 2005 or having 25 hours of classroom instruction and observation of 1 live patient experience from a board approved CE provider. The permit needs to be renewed every 2 years with a minimum of 7 hours of CE in sedation. Proper training of the entire dental team, monitoring equipment, emergency training and equipment is essential.

Typically in our practice, our sedation patients fall into two categories- fear based and time based. Our fear based patients are just as you would think-they usually have some past dental experiences that has kept them form the dental office. It is not uncommon for us to see a patient that has not had a dental visit for 10, 20, 30 years in some cases. Typical concerns are bad childhood experiences, pain during treatment, fear of needles, sounds, smells, difficulty getting numb, gag reflex or bad rapport with the dentist. Time based patients typically have at least some fear but also want to have as few appointments as possible in order to get back to maintenance visit status. Patients with hectic work schedules and frequent business travel are an example of time based patients. The entire dental team must be very skilled, compassionate, well-trained and have excellent communication skills in order to properly handle sedation patients. The patient’s heightened fears or needs require that your team go the extra mile to put the patient at ease.

As mentioned before, we treat only patients 18 years of age or older. Generally ASA I or ASA II are good candidates and with advanced training ASA III’s can be treated. We consult with every patients Physician prior to treatment. Also, a complete medical history and pre-op vitals are taken. Oral sedation is very safe but there are a few contraindications – pregnancy, allergy to medications used, interaction of some medications that the patient is already taking – I will not go into all of that now. Triazolam is the main medication we use for oral sedation. Triazolam is a benzodiazepine in the sedative-hypnotic family. Amnesia is a normal and much appreciated side effect for my patients. Typically a patient will take a small dose of diazepam at bedtime and we can also supplement the triazolam with hydroxyzine. We also, quite often, supplement the sedation with a low dose of nitrous oxide during the administration of local anesthetic and oral surgery. A typical sedation appointment is 5-6 hours. We can be performing treatment from simple restorative, crown and bridge and periodontal therapy ( by one of our trained hygienists ) to full mouth reconstruction, endodontic therapy, oral surgery and laser gum treatment. Our patients are constantly monitored with a pulse oximeter/pulse/blood pressure monitor. We do not put our patients to sleep. They are in a relaxed state that allows them to complete their requested treatment. We can communicate with the patient throughout the appointment as needed. At the conclusion of the appointment, the patient’s escort is given post operative instruction and the patient will return home to nap the rest of the afternoon. Patients appreciate the amnesiac effect of the triazolam. I have had patients call the office later that day, upset that they have slept through and missed their appointment only to be told they were in our office from 7:30 am to 1:00 pm.

I hope this give you a brief insight into adult oral sedation and how this can be a wonderful service to provide your patients.

Cordless Drills – Picking Up a Right Tool

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Cordless drills are electric drills using rechargeable batteries. They are commonly used in carpentry, construction and metalworks.

A cordless drill is a portable machine for hand-held drilling tasks. It comes in various sizes and types, each with varying features. Here are some features to consider:

The Weight of the Drill

Take into consideration the weight. Drills with lower battery voltage are usually smaller and lighter. Heavier drills though have higher-voltage batteries.

Batteries

Cordless drills are available in 9.6 to 24 volts. The capacity of the drill depends on the battery voltage. Not all 12-volt batteries are the same. A battery with a higher mAh (milliamp-hours) can hold a drill for long periods. On the other hand, battery types like Lithium-ion and nickel-metal-hydride help add more power and running time. These drills are relatively lighter and don’t contain toxic cadmium.

Check the prices also. Most modern batteries sell for more than $200 or more. NiCd cells are priced lower costing as little as $25. The Li-Ion and NIMH cells cost more than $90.

Cordless drill batteries last 2 to 4 years on the average. It is recommended to use rechargeable batteries. It will be more economical in the long run.

The Brand

Generally, branded drills are more efficient and reliable in performance although more costly. There’s Black & Decker, Craftsman, Ryobi and Skil to name a few. Bosch, Hitachi, Milwaukee, DeWalt, Ridgid and PorterCable are do-it-yourself brands that are more expensive. Search the internet for other recommended brands.

The Price

Depending on the voltage, good cordless drill costs $60 to $100. Most 9.6-volt drills cost around $100. A 12-volt model costs about $50 to $130. A 14.4-volt is usually sold for $60 to $200. An 18-volt usually sells for $100 to $300. Impact drivers are sold for $150.

Additional features:

o Smart Charger. Many recent models come with a charger that can be optimized to extend battery life. A fully-charged battery will switch into a trickle-charge mode. Some models offer a charger with built-in spare batteries.

o Chuck. A cordless drill uses a 3/8 inch chuck to hold the bits. Chucks can be 12 inches long, allowing one to use the drill bit for up to ½ inches in diameter. This includes a hammer drill feature for woodworking and for drilling holes in masonry.

o Kits. Some cordless drills come with a flashlight, circular and reciprocating saws and a carrying case.

Here are some tips on choosing the right cordless tool that will suit your budget and personal preferences.

1. Look for a drill with a work-saving feature. Most suited drills have long running power and requires fewer pauses.

2. Check out the latest sales and promos. Some drills when bought include freebies and additional kits.

3. Hold the drill and check the grip for sharp edges and bumps. The trigger should work smoothly.

4. Check if the specifications in ads and displays are true. Don’t be satisfied with the speed test in stores.

Have a basic understanding of the parts and functions of a cordless drill. Buy the right drill depending on your budget and needs.

A Webkinz Is A Small Toy Pet With Huge "Grass Roots" Appeal

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Have you ever heard of a toy that sold more than one million units in it first fourteen months without the parent company ever spending any money to advertise it? How about the fact that it is only sold in certain specialty stores (and cannot be purchased in many popular toy stores) yet these toy pets are selling at the rate of over ten thousand each week. When I last checked Ebay, the site had over ten thousand of these toys for sale. As you can see, this toy pet is wildly popular with the more than five hundred thousand customers who have “adopted” it for children between the ages of five and twelve. The name for this toy is Webkinz.

I first discovered Webkinz several weeks ago. After a day of teaching first grade, my wife returned home with that gleam in her eye that tells me that she has thought of a new and unique way to educate her first graders. She told me that her classroom had adopted a pet frog called “Froggie” and that the children were very excited. I thought a pet frog would be great in a first grade classroom and wanted to know who would feed it. She told me that feeding “Froggie” would require money that the children could raise online through the pets interactive website. I was confused until she told me that the frog was really a toy pet called a Webkinz.

Since I had never heard of a Webkinz, I was interested in learning more. Webkinz is produced by the Ganz company headquartered in Toronto, Canada. It is a small stuffed animal somewhat larger than the size of a beanie baby. There are about thirty five different types of Webkinz that can be purchased /adopted as pets. You can adopt pets that include pandas, cats, poodles, pigs, monkeys, and frogs. Webkinz pets can only be bought for adoption through specific independent gift and toy stores. The adopted Webkinz comes with a secret code that is used to register the toy pet and gain access to its highly interactive world in cyberspace. In this world in cyberspace you can name and feed the pet, design its room and raise cash through interactive games that can be used to develop the toy pet’s life and story. The online activities are designed to teach children to be responsible, nurturing pet owners and to save and budget. The Ganz company also now sells Webkinz charms ,clothing and playing cards.

My wife certainly proved to be correct in the adoption of the toy pet frog for the classroom. Her first graders loved playing and learning with “Froggie” their adopted class mascot . Some of the educational activities in her class room that used the Webkinz included writing about the frog using descriptive paragraphs with illustrations, researching the red eye tree frog as well as math activities that sometimes utilized the Webkinz interactive website. The class even wrote a letter to the Ganz company suggesting ideas for future Webkinz toy pet designs.

However, it was her final class activity that astounded me the most. She asked the class how many of these adopted toy pets that they owned at home. When the counting had stopped, her twenty five students told her that they owned four hundred twenty one Webkinz.

That unadvertised small toy pet certainly has huge grass roots appeal.

Waterproof Shower Radio – The Benefits of Buying a Shower Radio

Image : http://www.flickr.com

There are many benefits to getting a waterproof shower radio. There are now so many to choose from so if you are thinking of purchasing one, you should decide what the main advantages will be for you to be completely satisfied with the radio you end up with.

Once you start looking online for a water proof radio, you may be pleasantly surprised at the amount of choice that there is. You can choose to buy a simple radio or you can opt for a multi functional radio combination that includes a digital clock, an integrated mirror and also a CD player if you wish. This sort of radio would be the perfect choice if you wanted to be able to use it any where in the house.

One example of a simple shower radio that can be purchased is one that looks just like the shape of a shower bottle. It is formed with a large hook on the top so that you can place it directly on the shower head or on the curtain rail and have your music streaming in and around you while you bathe.

These radios have been made so that they will not get damaged when them come into contact with water and are therefore highly water resistant.

If you prefer to buy a radio that you can use in other areas of the home, you may like to opt for a sturdy desktop design. You can still purchase a water resistant or splash resistant radio that is specifically designed for counter tops. A good example is the Sony Waterproof Radio. It can be situated next to your bathroom sink or kitchen sink without any danger of clogging up the system.

If you have made the decision to buy a waterproof radio, take a look online to see the choices available.

HDMI vs DVI – Which is Better?

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Are you looking out to buy a DVD player/TV/home theatre? Then you are probably worrying about HDMI Vs DVI questions: which is better? Are they compatible? HDMI Vs DVI, which should I opt?

Which is better? HDMI or DVI?

Let’s first understand what they are. Both of them are standards for carrying digital signals between a source like your set top box or Blu-ray disc player and your TV. High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI), which connects like USB, is a licensable audio/video connector interface for transmitting uncompressed, encrypted digital streams. HDMI was derived from DVI. It has more bandwidth capability (5Gbps to 10Gbps). Unlike DVI, which needs a separate cable to carry audio, HDMI uses a single cable for video and audio making the cabling less bulky. Not just that, HDMI cables can go up to 15m length, giving you the flexibility to design your living room.

HDMI supports automatic screen format conversion. It can automatically convert a picture into its most appropriate format, such as a 4:3 or 16:9 aspect ratios. HDMI produces pictures that are sharper and smoother (up to 1080pi resolution). Though DVI can produce similar picture quality, HDMI betters it in audio.

Are HDMI and DVI compatible?

HDMI is fully’backward’compatible with DVI. For example, if you have a DVD player with a DVI connection and a HDMI LCD TV, it works. All you need is a HDMI/DVI adapter. But some HDMI features will be lost if you use an adapter like automatic screen format conversion and universal remote control.

HDMI Vs DVI

If you are buying both HDTV and a video player like Blu-ray Disc player, I suggest you go for HDMI for both. You can free up your living room of messy cables that you find in other home theatres. You can use a single remote to operate all the devices connected and it provides the best video and audio. But if you already have one of a DVI source or DVI TV and then just go for a DVI for the other one as well because going for HDMI does not increase the overall quality of experience.

Overall, I recommend HDMI because it gives you better quality of video and audio, has lesser cables and gives you the universal remote control. Add the DRM (Digital Rights Management) angle to it, HDMI may well be the standard in days to come.

Rhin-O-Tuff HD7700 Horizontal Heavy Duty Interchangeable Die Modular Binding Punch Review

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Overview:

The Rhino Tuff HD7700H takes the design and the features of the HD7700 and flips the punching mechanism for users who prefer a horizontal punching throat.
Although the machine looks a lot different from the vertical 7700 this machine includes all of the great features including the large punching capacity, chip tray, easy die change and heavy duty construction.
In fact, many users find that the HD7700-H is actually a little bit easier to use than the standard HD7700 vertical punch. Especially for operators that are used to using a horizontal feed punch such as the GBC Magnapunch or 111PM.
The HD7700 is not only easy to use but also has a huge number of features that are simply not included on other heavy duty binding punches. These help to set the HD7700 apart from its competition.

Strengths / Features:

One of the most impressive things about the HD7700H is its punching capacity. Depending on the hole-pattern that you are punching this machine can punch as many as 55 sheets of paper at one time.
As a rule, the more holes that you are trying to punch at once the less sheets you can punch. Thus, this machine can punch 55 sheets of paper when punching a three-hole or Velobind hole pattern and only 40 sheets of paper when punching a 4:1 pitch spiral coil pattern. No other modular binding punch comes even close to these numbers.
The HD7700 Horizontal uses the Rhino Tuff patented quick die change technology. All you need to do in order to switch punching patterns is to release the die locks and slide the old die out of the machine, you can then slide a new die set into the slot and lock it in place. There are twelve standard dies and fourteen custom dies for the HD7700H giving you a huge selection of punching options with this machine.
Although other modular binding punches on the market offer fourteen inch punching throats, not all of their dies are fourteen inches wide. However, with the 7700H all of the dies are fourteen inches wide. This means that you can punch legal sized sheets of paper in one step. Plus, the open throat on this machine allows you to punch longer sheets using a two step punching process.
The horizontal design of the HD7700-H makes this punch simple to use and easy to load. For years many of the largest and highest quality binding punches have been horizontal and many experienced operators have come to prefer this orientation. This machine comes standard with a foot pedal to operate the punch. However, users can order a versa switch for paper activated punching or a palm switch for push button punching.
When it comes to construction, the HD7700H sets the standard for heavy duty punches. The case, internal components, die set and even the chip tray are made of heavy duty steel and other metal alloys. This machine is designed to be used every day in a high volume print shop or bindery without having any problems. The HD-7700H comes with a one year warranty on both the die set and the machine which shows just how confident that Rhino is in their equipment.
On top of all of these features I have already listed there are a number of other great things that help to set this machine apart from its completion. It has an extra large chip tray and a manual reverse feature to help clear paper jams. It even has an LED display to tell you if your die isn’t loaded correctly.

Weaknesses / Limitations:

One of the weaknesses of this machine is simply its size. In order to convert the HD7700 into a horizontal punch without completely redesigning it Rhino simply flipped the existing machine on its end and attached it to a heavy duty base. The resulting machine is massive. It weighs over one hundred pounds and measures 21″ x 21″ x 19″. This is a big machine.
The big claim to fame of the HD7700H is that it can punch more paper than any other punch on the market. However in my tests, the punching quality was extremely poor when I tried to punch the maximum capacity of this machine. The holes were ragged and the sheets of paper became welded together from the extreme force that was exerted to punch the holes. In some cases the paper even buckled between the holes. In order to achieve a good punch quality I had to punch half or less of the maximum. This was disappointing especially for a machine that is often used to create jobs that customers pay a great deal of money for.
The HD7700H is an industrial punching solution and as such it has a look that is industrial. This is fine for a print shop, bindery or production floor. However, this machine will have a tendency to stick out like a sore thumb in an office environment. If you are concerned with asthetics and noise you will want to find a place in your office that is out of the public eye to place this machine.
When Rhin-O-Tuff turned the HD7700 on its end and made it into a horizontal punch they ruined several of the features of the machine. The vertical model can be combined with an auto feed system to become a semi-automatic punch, the horizontal cannot. Likewise, the vertical model is designed to have pieces of finishing equipment or a die rack attached to the top of the machine. The horizontal isn’t designed for this. Your finishing equipment will have to have its own place on your countertop or work area.
In comparing this machine to the GBC Magnapunch (its major competitor) there is no question that this machine has more features. However, the Magnapunch has a faster punching cycle, a sleeker design and most of my customers prefer using it to this machine. They find it easier to use, easier to change the dies and less complicated than this machine.

Recommendation:

The HD7700-Horizontal binding punch is a great fit for high volume printers, binderies, copy shops and other organizations that are looking for a feature rich binding machine that can punch a lot of paper at one time.
It has a legal sized punching throat, a huge assortment of dies and is one of the best built binding punches that is available on the market.
The HD7700H is built for high volume users who prefer a horizontal punch and want an extremely durable punching machine.
However, users who are concerned about punching quality, space issues and appearance may want to consider the GBC Magnapunch as an alternative to this machine. The Magnapunch is faster, easier to use and has long been the standard for heavy duty modular binding punches.
